Installation > DIY Fitting Instructions

Before fitting the post practice how the post is operated.
Digging a hole is straightforward in most cases, however it does depend on the surface of the driveway etc. Also the type of equipment you have available.

Mark out the hole, say 10 inches/250mm square. When the hole is dug - use safe digging practice - please allow an extra three inches/75mm or so deeper. This allows small stone chippings to be placed under the post (available from local builders merchant), this allows for extra drainage.

Water will get into the top box section so it must have drainage for the water to escape into the ground. You will see a small pipe under the box section - place an off-cut of rigid piping (toilet overflow pipe for instance, oversized pipe is not a problem) over this pipe and extend towards the bottom of the post.

You will see a small plastic vent pipe attached to the box section - this is for air to escape during operation. It is fitted into a small square with a plastic bung. Remove the plug and pour in three inches/half a pint, of general engine oil. This lubricates the locking system inside the post and will require doing once.

Put some stone chippings at the bottom of the hole. Pull out the top section of the post and place the post in the hole ensuring the lid, when closed, is 15mm above the driveway surface. Pour chippings around the post to approximately a third of the way up. Make sure your drainage pipe is in place then fill with concrete, finishing off with a sloping mortar fillet around the top..

Double check the post is vertical. Leave for twenty-four hours before use.

The above details are only advisory and subject to site conditions.
When unlocking the post, please take the weight of the lock by pulling up the handle.
This takes the weight of the lock prior to turning the key.

Remove the key before lowering the post into the box section, close the lid.
